Effective October 26, 2026
Read Treehouse is a private, non-commercial website operated by Read Tree House LLC and run by the Read family for family members and a small number of invited guests. It is not open to the public, has no advertising, and does not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Who can use the site
Only people the family has invited can sign in. Visitors who are not signed in can see only this policy and the home page.
Each person sees a page made for their role. Teens, extended family and guests see only the sections the family has chosen for that role; bills, to-do lists, reminders, AI suggestions, private calendar items and notes drawn from email are never shown outside the immediate family.
Signing in
Sign-in is handled by Microsoft Entra ID. Invited guests may sign in with a Microsoft account, a Google account, or a one-time code sent by email. When you sign in, the site receives your name, email address, and the access level the family has assigned to you. It does not receive or store your password.
After sign-in, the site sets secure, HTTP-only cookies on readtreehouse.com so you stay signed in. These cookies are used only for sign-in and access control, not for tracking or advertising.
What the site stores
- Family updates. Calendars, reminders, meal plans and similar family content, prepared by the family. Guests see only content the family has marked for guests.
- Sign-in records. Basic logs of sign-ins and requests (time, account, page) kept for security and troubleshooting.
- People and roles. The name, email address and role (adult, teen, extended family or guest) of each person the family has added, when they last signed in, and any end date for their access. Only the family's Global Admin can change these.
- Your settings. Your color scheme and start page.
- Activity. A short log of actions people take on the site (for example "checked off a to-do" or "changed a role"), never the content involved. You can see your own on My settings; adults see the household's. It is kept for the period the family sets (one year by default).
- Actions you request. When a family member uses a feature that acts on their behalf (for example, adding items to a grocery cart or a calendar event), the site keeps a record of the request and its result.
- On your device. Checklist ticks are saved in your browser's local storage on that device only.
Grocery services (Kroger)
Family members may choose to connect a Kroger account so the site can add shopping-list items to their Kroger cart. The site uses Kroger's official sign-in, never sees the Kroger password, and asks only for permission to read products and store locations and to add items to the cart. The access tokens Kroger issues are stored encrypted and used only to fulfil requests the family member makes. Disconnecting is available at any time, and tokens can also be revoked from the Kroger account.
Microsoft calendar and To Do
Adult family members may connect their own Microsoft account so the site can add events to their own Outlook calendar and items to their own Microsoft To Do when they ask it to. The connection covers only that person's calendar and To Do, uses Microsoft's sign-in, and can be disconnected at any time.
Text messages
Adult household members may sign up for a daily morning brief by text message (see the Text Message Terms). The site stores the mobile number, the date and wording of the consent, and whether the person has opted out. Mobile numbers and opt-in consent are used only to send the brief and are never sold, rented or shared with third parties for marketing or any other purpose, except the service that delivers the messages (Amazon Web Services). Reply STOP to any message to stop.
The site reads short previews of the family's own email from schools, the parish, Scouts, service providers and billers to list dates, deadlines and bills due. Newsletters from the school, the parish and Scouts are read in full once, to pick out their dates and useful notes. Whole messages are not stored.
Bills (who is billing, the amount and the due date) are shown only to Scott and Kelly after they sign in, never to other family members or guests. Account numbers, card numbers and payment details are never stored or shown.
Calendar items marked private keep their privacy: the site shows them as "Private event", and only the people the item is shared with see its title after signing in.
Weather
Current-conditions readings come from the family's own weather station through Ambient Weather, and forecasts come from the National Weather Service and AccuWeather. Watches and warnings for the home area come from the National Weather Service; the site asks for them itself, so your browser never contacts weather.gov. No information about you is sent to these services.
AI assistance
Some features available only to the adult family members use Anthropic's Claude to draft or carry out requested actions. Only the information needed for the request is sent, and nothing is sent for guests.
Where information is kept
The site runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Stored information is encrypted at rest and all traffic uses HTTPS.
Sharing
Information is shared only with the service providers that run the features above (Microsoft, Google for sign-in, Amazon Web Services, Kroger, Anthropic, and weather providers), and only as needed to provide them. It is never sold or used for advertising.
Children
Family members under 18 use the site only under their parents' accounts and supervision. AI-assisted features are limited to adults.
Your choices
Invited guests may ask to have their access removed and their sign-in records deleted at any time. Contact us using the address below.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
